Where To Use
Great for new or old, previously coated interior or exterior vertical brick, masonry, stucco, concrete, cement, slate, stone, cinder block, adobe and clay. Allow new stucco and masonry to cure for 30 days before painting. Also suitable for wood applications such as eaves, overhangs and trim where necessary.
May be used on galvanized gutters or flashing areas.
Not recommended for any horizontal surfaces subject to foot traffic, including concrete and masonry floors. Use BEHR PREMIUM PLUS® PORCH & FLOOR PAINT, BEHR NO. 800 SOLID COLOR CONCRETE STAIN, BEHR NO. 850 SEMI-TRANSPARENT CONCRETE STAIN or BEHR NO. 900 1-PART EPOXY ACRYLIC CONCRETE & GARAGE FLOOR PAINT for these surfaces (see labels for application limitations).
(The following steps are recommended for best results)
If surface has been previously treated with a waterproofing sealer or coating, check manufacturer's specifications before painting these surfaces.
Remove all loose, peeling paint or stain.
All surfaces must be free of dirt, chalk, mildew, oily substances, crumbling masonry, wax and any signs of gloss.
To remove dirt and grease use BEHR® NO. 990 CONCRETE CLEANER & DEGREASER. Remove mildew stains with BEHR® NO. 62 MULTI-SURFACE CLEANER & MILDEW STAIN REMOVER. Refer to product labels for specific instructions.
On galvanized metal, use a diluted solution of BEHR NO. 991 CONCRETE ETCHER & RUST REMOVER to prepare surface. Refer to product label for specific instructions.
Powerwash to remove all chalk, rinse and allow a minimum of 24 hours to dry.
Test surface for additional signs of chalk by wiping hand across surface.
If there is a white powdery substance left on your hand, pressure wash again to remove all signs of chalk. Rinse and allow to dry.
If any chalk remains on the surface, prime with PREMIUM PLUS® EXTERIOR WATER-BASED PRIMER & SEALER NO. 436 prior to application of BEHR NO. 270/271 FLAT MASONRY, STUCCO & BRICK PAINT. Refer to product label for specific instructions. Primer is not necessary if chalk has been completely removed.
Scuff sand all glossy surfaces.
Cracks and gaps wider than 1/16" (1.5 mm) should be routed open, dusted and patched with a quality patching compound. Sand smooth. Use an acrylic caulk around windows, doors and trim. Scuff sand glossy surfaces.
Spot prime all patched areas with PREMIUM PLUS® EXTERIOR WATER-BASED PRIMER & SEALER NO. 436 tinted to the color of the topcoat. Refer to product label for specific instructions.
If previously sealed or coated, check manufacturer's specifications before painting.
Product has been formulated for use at package consistency, therefore, thinning is not recommended.
When working with more than one container of the same color, intermix all cans of same product to ensure color uniformity.
Stir paint before and occasionally during application.
For best results, use product when surface and air temperatures are between 50-90°F (10-32°C). Do not apply if temperature is below 50ºF or if rain or heavy dew is expected within 24 hours.
Avoid applying in direct sunlight to a hot surface. If temperature exceeds 90ºF, hose down surface and allow to dry to a damp condition before painting.
For rough textured surfaces, apply at a spread rate of about 250-300 sq. ft. (23-28m²) per gallon using a 3/4"-1" long nap roller.
For smooth surfaces, apply at a spread rate of about 400 sq. ft. (37m²) per gallon using a nylon brush, short nap roller or a quality airless sprayer. For sprayer, use a .015-.017 size tip and follow manufacturer's recommendations for water-based coatings. If applying a second coat, spread rate is approximately 500 sq. ft. (46m²) per gallon on smooth surfaces; 300 sq. ft. (28m²) per gallon on rough surfaces.
Maintain a wet edge to avoid lap marks. Do not re-spread or re-work paint.
Wear appropriate respirator, eye and apparel protection when using a sprayer.
Dries to touch in approximately 2 to 3 hours at 75ºF and 50% relative humidity.
Recoat in four hours.
Additional dry time is needed in cooler temperatures and higher humidity.
Cures in about two weeks. Cured paint film may be cleaned with a mild, non-abrasive liquid detergent.
Clean tools and spills with warm, soapy water.
For dried spills, scrub and use hot water and a household detergent. Rinse with water.
Properly dispose of all soiled rags and protect unused product from freezing.
