AUTION: PAINTED SURFACES MAY BECOME SLIPPERY WHEN WET. Adding BEHR® NO. 970 NON-SKID FLOOR FINISH ADDITIVE will help prevent slip. Follow all label instructions. Adding a non-skid additive will reduce the life span of the product therefore, retain any leftover paint for periodic maintenance re-coating.
(The following steps are recommended for best results)
Proper surface preparation is essential for adhesion of the paint.
Painted, Stained or Sealed Concrete:
Remove any loose or peeling paint and scuff sand the surface.
CLEAN: All surfaces must be clean, sound, dry, and free of any dirt, dust, oil, wax, or grease using BEHR NO. 990 CONCRETE CLEANER & DEGREASER. Rinse and allow to dry.
ETCH: Use BEHR NO. 991 CONCRETE ETCHER & RUST REMOVER on all areas where loose or peeling paint was removed. (Follow instructions from uncoated concrete section below). Allow to dry.
PRIME: Apply BEHR NO. 880 CONCRETE BONDING PRIMER to all uncoated concrete areas. Following all label instructions. Allow Concrete Bonding Primer to dry at least 8 hours before topcoating.
New And Uncoated Concrete or Masonry Surfaces:
Check for an unseen waterproofer on the surface by sprinkling a few drops of water on the surface to be top-coated. If water completely absorbs into the surface within a few minutes, the surface is ready for cleaning. If water beads and continues to stay on top of the surface, you will need to strip the entire surface with a chemical stripper. After stripping, re-test surface for repellency.
New concrete must cure for a minimum of 30 days.
CLEAN: All surfaces must be clean, sound, dry, and free of any dirt, dust, oil, wax, or grease. Use BEHR NO. 990 CONCRETE CLEANER & DEGREASER. Rinse and allow to dry.
Remove mildew stains with BEHR® NO. 62 MULTI-SURFACE CLEANER & MILDEW STAIN REMOVER. Refer to product labels for specific instructions.
ETCH: For proper penetration and adhesion of topcoats, use BEHR NO. 991 CONCRETE ETCHER & RUST REMOVER. Refer to product label for specific instructions.
Wear appropriate eye, skin and apparel protection when applying etching solution. Protect plants and other surfaces from splashing.
Tip: Use a plastic watering can to apply the etcher.
Working in small sections, apply solution into surface with a stiff bristle broom. On sloped surfaces, work from the lowest point to the highest.
Allow etching solution to remain on surface for 5 to 10 minutes. Keep area wet before and during etching. Scrub while rinsing thoroughly with clean water and allow to dry.
Tip: A pressure washer may be used for best results.
Test the surface by applying duct tape to the etched areas and pull back up. The tape must be clean and free of any concrete dust or dirt. If particles or a white residue are still present, it must be removed with additional scrubbing and rinsing with BEHR NO. 990 CONCRETE CLEANER & DEGREASER. Check the surface for water penetration by applying a few drops of water. Water should penetrate the surface.
br>PRIME: Apply BEHR NO. 880 CONCRETE BONDING PRIMER while following label instructions. Allow Concrete Bonding Primer to dry at least 8 hours before topcoating.
DO NOT THIN PRODUCT! Intermix all cans of same product to ensure color uniformity. Stir before applying.
Use product when air and surface temperature are between 50-90° F (10-32°C).
Apply a thin even coat using a 3/8 nap roller cover, pad applicator or a nylon/polyester brush at a spread rate of 400-500 sq. ft. (37-46m²) per gallon on smooth surfaces and 300-400 sq. ft. (28-37m²) per gallon on rough surfaces.
Allow first coat to dry 24 hours before deciding if a second coat is necessary. Apply a second coat (in a criss-cross direction) only if uniformity is needed.
DO NOT APPLY MORE THAN TWO COATS. An annual touch-up may be required for areas subject to tire traffic.
Dries to touch in two hours. Longer time required in cooler temperatures and higher humidity.
The floor may be subjected to light foot traffic after 24 hours. Allow 72 hours before subjecting surface to heavy foot traffic or repositioning furniture. Allow 7 days before subjecting painted surface to automotive tires.
If necessary, corrugated cardboard may be used underneath automobile tires after 72 hours.
Premature heavy traffic will cause paint failure requiring spot recoating.
Wait at least 30 days before rinsing or cleaning with a mild detergent.
Abrasive cleaners and pressure-washers should be used carefully to avoid premature paint failure.
Clean-up brushes, roller covers and tools immediately after use with soap and water.
Properly dispose of all soiled rags. Protect unused product from freezing.

PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.
